This 28-Pound Rabbit Wears Hats, Drives A Tiny Car, And Comforts Strangers

In San Francisco, one very fluffy celebrity is turning heads — and it’s not a movie star.
It’s Alex the Great, a 4-year-old, 28-pound Flemish Giant rabbit who has become a local legend and beloved therapy animal.

Alex isn’t your average bunny. Whether he’s cruising in his custom foot-controlled mini Mercedes truck or riding in his LED-lit stroller (which proudly spells out his name), Alex draws attention wherever he hops. His latest appearance? A San Francisco Giants game — where fans went wild as the broadcast zoomed in on his signature floppy ears and his baseball cap.
Row, 45, adopted Alex in December 2020 after losing his beloved Lionhead rabbit, Sam. Alex had been born on a farm in Modesto, California, where rabbits were raised for meat. Wanting to give him a better life, Row rescued him — and the rest is history.
Alex’s outgoing personality started to shine early. On a trip to Las Vegas in January 2021, Row watched in amazement as Alex confidently explored the Strip on a leash and enjoyed the Fountains of Bellagio — a rare reaction for most rabbits, who are typically nervous in new environments.
Inspired by his bold spirit, Row gave him the name “Alex the Great,” a nod to the legendary conqueror — and a playful reflection of the bunny’s larger-than-life presence.
It didn’t take long for Alex’s charm to catch professional attention. During a vet visit, a doctor suggested Alex might make a perfect therapy animal. Row took the advice to heart, and by February 2021, Alex was training through the San Francisco SPCA. He passed with flying colors — staying calm even during tests where evaluators gently tugged his ears, legs, and tail.
Now a certified therapy bunny, Alex travels to hospitals, airports, charity events, and even ballparks, bringing joy to everyone he meets. He welcomes pets from admirers of all ages and seems to thrive in the spotlight.
