Texas Man Who Spent 20 Years In Prison Becomes A Hero Twice Over, Saving Lives In Daring Rescues

Today's good news story comes from Ellis County, Texas.

After spending two decades in prison, Jacob Bell is proving that redemption isn’t just possible—it can be heroic. In just two months, Bell has saved two lives, showing the world the power of transformation and second chances.

In August, while out on Lake Waxahachie, Texas, Bell was enjoying a boat ride when he noticed a teenage girl struggling to stay afloat in the open water. Without a second thought, he dove in, swimming through the waves to reach her and bringing her safely back to shore.

But this was only the first of his courageous acts.

This October, Bell was driving through rural Comanche County when he came upon a horrifying scene: an overturned car, crushed and ablaze. Inside was a 72-year-old man, unconscious and unresponsive. Bell quickly broke the car’s window, pulling the man out just as flames threatened to overtake them. Noticing the man wasn’t breathing and without a pulse, Bell immediately began CPR. Within moments, he felt a faint pulse return, and the man started to breathe again. Both men were taken to the hospital, where Bell was treated for smoke inhalation.

These acts of bravery mark a stark contrast from Bell’s past. Convicted of burglary in 1996, he spent 20 years in prison, determined to rebuild his life after his release.

“I spent most of my life thinking I was a nobody, a castaway,” Bell shared. “But this has really shown me that it’s possible to give back and feel good about yourself.”
