Officer Rodney Johnson was on routine patrol Friday when he noticed traffic slowing down on Paris Pike. Upon investigating, he saw a woman in a wheelchair struggling to get home. Without hesitation, he parked his cruiser, turned on his lights, and stepped in to help—gently wheeling her down the street as traffic waited.
For Johnson, it was just another day of serving his community.
“It was just instinct. That’s what we’re here for—to help people,” he shared. What he didn’t realize was that a passerby had captured the moment on video. The footage was later sent to the Georgetown Police Department, which posted it on Facebook.
The video has since gained over 1,300 views, with countless people praising Johnson for his selfless act.
“We’re out here doing a job, you know, trying to help people as much as we can, and then you know, to have that much love and respect to come from the public saying that. It’s very humbling,” said Johnson. “That’s what we do. We serve and protect the community. We help people that need to be helped and sometimes when people can’t help themselves, we step in and we provide that help that they need.”
The Georgetown Police Department expressed their pride in Johnson’s actions, calling it a true example of going above and beyond. His kindness serves as a reminder that doing the right thing—even when no one is watching—can make a world of difference.
