February 28, 2025
A rare and mesmerizing sight was captured deep within a Polish forest—two black wolves, likely siblings, were seen crossing a stream on camera.

The footage was recorded by Joanna Toczydłowska of the SAVE Wildlife Conservation Fund Poland.
She originally set up the camera to observe beavers but was stunned to discover she had unknowingly filmed the elusive black wolves.
Now, researchers are collecting samples from the area to analyze the wolves’ genetics. Black fur in wolves results from an ancient genetic mutation that likely originated in domesticated dogs thousands of years ago. While black wolves are relatively common in the United States, they are rare in Europe.
